Connected Healthcare Systems Cut Costs, Improve Care
By using M2M solutions the healthcare industry can reduce costs and at the same time improve the quality of care.
Thanks to remote monitoring, hospitals can reduce or eliminate stays. Scarce hospital beds can then be freed up for more serious cases while the majority of patients can recover at home. Tracking solutions lead to increased security for patients and the elderly and to peace of mind for relatives. Meanwhile they can remain independent for longer in their own homes. M2M devices create a whole new lifestyle, preventing illness by making fitness monitoring fun.
M2M Makes Self-Determined Living Possible for Senior Citizens
Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) solutions enable patients and older people to lead self-determined lives. Monitoring and tracking systems offer doctors, relatives and caregivers a constant update on a patient’s health status and whereabouts.
People in need of care prefer to live self-determined lives in their own. But inadequate safety in the home as the risk of falls increases or a lack of healthcare in case of illness often stand in the way of this wish. This is why smart AAL systems are in greater demand than ever.
M2M solution enables swift home care assistance
Ambient Assisted Living solutions for self-determined living provide benefits for both patients and hospitals. Telekom’s Smart Emergency Home Call System, for example, ensures swift and targeted assistance for people in need of care. To reduce the risk of falls causing injuries, sensors connected to software are installed around the home. If the software identifies a fall, it notifies a home emergency call center automatically.
The Internet of Things can even distinguish between a fall and somebody bending down to pick something up. If the individual does not respond to calls, M2M technology ensures that a physician is notified without delay. In addition, home emergency call center staff can swiftly gain an impression of the situation by means of a graphically distorted image of the scene. People with memory loss or impaired mobility are thereby able to continue to live on their own at home.
Emergency watch with M2M technology makes emergency calls
Thanks to unobtrusive emergency watches, users enjoy protection both at home and when they are out and about. They can trigger an emergency call at any time by pressing a button. The emergency watch makes an automatic call to a predetermined number. If nobody takes the call, it is redirected automatically to the next number. There is also a direct link to an emergency call center of the Red Cross that is manned around the clock.
Inside the emergency watch a Telekom SIM card ensures constant mobile wireless reception. The SIM card is smaller and more robust that conventional cards and has a longer service life. Providers manage the SIM cards in emergency watches themselves via the Telekom M2M Service Portal.
