For some people, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, with long walks in the snow, delicious food and the family gathered around the Christmas tree. There are plenty of reasons to enjoy this special season - but how do you celebrate it trouble-free? The answer is: with machine-to-machine (M2M) communication.

It’s Christmas. Finally, the day has come. However, before the celebration in the evening can begin, last-minute arrangements have to be made. You spent weeks planning your Christmas dinner but when the day comes suddenly you realize that crucial ingredients are missing. No choice – you have to drive into the city center. Sounds familiar? However, with M2M communication you can avoid more additional stress. Here are some examples.

Your safe home during Christmas Holidays

In a hurry you run out of the house and realize on the way that you forgot to turn off the lights in your living room and kitchen. But there is no need to get angry. One touch on your smartphone – the remote dimmer – is enough to control the lighting at your home. This allows you to keep an eye on your house or apartment even in stressful situations. Additionally, a home can even switch lights on and off to appear occupied while you are away, thereby enhancing the security of the house. With the Smart Home solution your place remains safe during your Christmas leave.

Avoid the stress during Christmas shopping

Last-minute shopping before Christmas often turns out to be a real challenge, mostly due to heavy traffic and overcrowded parking. Here Smart Parking is the solution. Each parking slot is equipped with sensors that relay information on available parking space to a central server. This is the basis for an app that guides you to the next free parking space. What a relief!

Find your home warm after your comeback

Shopping is done but you are frozen stiff after walking around in the city. The only goal is to reach your comfortably warm home. On the way back you can adjust wirelessly the temperature at your home. This works by connecting the smartphone directly to your central heating thermostat and setting it to the temperature of your choice.

Don’t miss the ordered Christmas gifts

Arriving at home, parcels are waiting, but this doesn’t come as a surprise thanks to the PaketButler. Instead of missing delivered gifts and spending the Christmas season at the next delivery center, the device receives parcels securely even when nobody is at home. The PaketButler is fixed to the recipient’s front door on the scheduled delivery day, allowing the parcel service to deliver the package at any time. Once the parcel has arrived, you are notified.

Right atmosphere at the right time

Finally, Christmas dinner is prepared, the house is decorated and the family is gathering around the Christmas tree. Your integrated audio and video system now offers an appropriate and new form of entertainment. Watching movies or your favorite shows comes along with a specific degree of dimmed lights and a personalized sound volume.

An exciting day comes to an end and your house knows it. As soon as it gets dark outside, the window shades close and the doors lock automatically. It is night-time and there is no need to worry about safety. A personalized home for a personalized Christmas. Enjoy your Christmas break!

With the cold weather, I have the problem of getting into bed before I remember to turn down the furnace heating for the night. In the morning it is the exact opposite. I want to turn up the heat, but I don't want to get out from under the covers. With the kids up early on Christmas morning, I look forward using my smart phone (which sits beside my bed) to control the thermostat! I enjoyed this holiday posting.
