Sensors also enable environmental information to be recorded. The lights are connected to Telekom’s mobile network without affecting the existing infrastructure. 

Thanks to remotely controlled street lighting, electricity consumption and costs are cut by up to 35 percent. In addition, malfunctions are much easier to identify, thereby reducing maintenance costs. At the same time the safety of the general public is increased by means of needs-based lighting on, for example, dark parking lots.

Real-time management of parking availability

M2M technologies also make real-time management of parking availability possible. Available spaces are shown in real time and parking prices can be adjusted to demand. The parking meters are connected to the service center via a modem, with the existing infrastructure remaining unchanged.

Parking prices adjusted to demand generate more revenue. Better information on availability also improves customer inflow. Motorists benefit too. Information on parking availability saves them time, and less time spent on looking for somewhere to park eases pressure on the environment and resources.
