M2M in a dynamic market.

In 2010, Deutsche Telekom announced its focus in four growth areas. For three of them M2M is the enabling technology: for Energy, Automotive and Health. This move corresponds to Deutsche Telekom’s Fix – Transform – Innovate strategy and states a response to the growing demand for intelligent network solutions in these rapidly developing markets.

Energy

The EU directive on renewable energies, which came into force in 2009, demands a 20 percent share of electricity from regenerative sources by 2020. With services to support smart grids and smart meters, Deutsche Telekom intends to offer state of the art solutions and to participate in this growth and become a top partner to the energy sector.

Automotive

Deutsche Telekom is teaming with partners to develop telematic vehicle solutions for safe, efficient driving, economical and environmentally friendly fleet management and possibilities for networking electric cars in the smart vehicles business area. With 350 million vehicles in Europe, Deutsche Telekom identified significant market potential in this segment.

Health

Demographic change and increasing budgetary pressures are major challenges to the healthcare system.
To master the delicate balancing act between increasing demand for healthcare services and tight budgets, the industry will have to rely increasingly on information and communication technology. These developments will give e-Health a major boost in the coming years. Deutsche Telekom is adopting a strategic, long-term approach for this market.

All three strategic business areas show strong correlation with the nine M2M market segments.
